Promising winger pens new deal at White Hart Lane

Andros Townsend has committed his long-term future to Tottenham, with a new contract tying him to the club until the summer of 2016. The 20-year-old winger is a product of Spurs' academy system and has graduated through the ranks to become a promising member of the first team fold. Senior opportunities remain limited for now, but he is considered to be one for the future at White Hart Lane. He has already taken in a number of loan spells since making the grade at Tottenham and could be on the move again in the New Year. Harry Redknapp recently hinted that he will look to find game time for those on the fringes of his plans, including his exciting crop of talented youngsters.

Townsend would be free to give his full attention to another loan deal, with any contractual concerns in North London having been ironed out. "We are delighted to announce that Andros Townsend has signed a new contract with the club until 2016," read a statement released on the club's official website. "The lightning winger has made an impressive transition to first team football and opened the scoring in his first appearance in our colours during the FA Cup third round match against Charlton Athletic in January. "Andros, who has also previously enjoyed loan spells with Millwall, MK Dons, Leyton Orient and Yeovil Town, has made a total of eight appearances so far for the club and also scored in his most recent appearance during our 4-0 win at Shamrock Rovers a week ago in the Europa League."
