Tottenham and England defender Kyle Walker has been named Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of the Year.
Defender surprised by player prize
Tottenham and England defender Kyle Walker has been named Professional Footballers' Association Young Player of the Year.
Walker beat his club team-mate Gareth Bale, Arsenal prodigy Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck, Manchester City hitman Aguero and Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge in the category.
Walker, who was also named in the team of the year, has enjoyed a fine season for Spurs and has made the right-back spot his own at White Hart Lane.
The 21-year-old was rewarded for his fine club form with his England debut in the win over Spain at Wembley last November
The attacking full-back then made his first start for his country against Sweden and picked up the Man of the Match award from the game last November.
Surprise
The former Sheffield United man admitted he was a little surprised to win the honour.
"I was a bit surprised because defenders don't normally get these awards and get the limelight as much as the centre-forwards," said Walker
"If you look at the people I was in with then it is a great honour to get the award and hopefully there is more to come.
"It is always an honour to be selected by the people you play against and, like I say, hopefully I can get a few more of these and some medals with Tottenham along the way."
