Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Steffen Freund is heading back to White Hart Lane after being appointed the club's new assistant head coach.
The German enforcer was a popular figure in north London during a five-year spell between 1998 and 2003, helping the club to League Cup success in 1999.
After hanging up his boots in 2004, Freund cut his coaching teeth with Germany's U20 side.
He then acted as assistant coach to Berti Vogts during his time in charge of Nigeria, before returning to the youth ranks in his homeland.
Team complete
Freund worked with Germany's U16 and U17 sides, leading the latter to a runners-up finish at the 2011 European U17 Championship.
He is now set to step back up into an assistant coaching position, with new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas keen to have club knowledge within his backroom staff.
"We are delighted to announce the appointment of former player Steffen Freund as our new assistant head coach," read a statement on the club's
official website.
"Steffen's appointment completes head coach Andre Villas-Boas' coaching team, alongside first team fitness coach Jose Mario Rocha, head of opposition scouting Daniel Sousa, first team Coach Luis Martins and goalkeeping coach Tony Parks."
