Tottenham striker Harry Kane hopes he will earn his first senior England cap after he was included in manager Roy Hodgson’s 24-man squad.

The 21-year-old is the only player in the squad who has never been involved in the senior set-up before.

And the in-form Spurs favourite, who has scored 26 goals this season, is looking to play some part in the European Qualifier against Lithuania and the friendly with Italy in Turin.

"That is what I will be aiming to do," he told Spurs TV.

"I will be going there to compete for places and get into the team. There are a lot of great players there and I know that but I will try and get in and do as well as I can and if I manage to get a cap then it will be a very proud day and one I won't forget.

"It is an honour to be called up to the senior side, something I always dreamed of as a kid.

"I'm excited, when I got the message I was going to be in I was full of joy and hopefully it is the first of many."

Kane, who has scored eight goals for the England U21 side in 10 internationals, has enjoyed a fine run of form which has seen him transform from a bit-part player to a key figure in Tottenham's push for a top-four finish.

Having spent time out on loan at a number of clubs before being handed a chance at White Hart Lane, the speed at which Kane has emerged as a potential England striker is not lost on the player himself.

"It has been hectic, a lot has been happening but I'm enjoying every minute of it," he said. "I just want it to continue and that is what I'm going to aim to do, keep progressing, keep working hard and getting better.

"You want to be at the top level in the Premier League. It is crazy how things can change in such a short space of time.

"It is a very proud moment for me and my family. I'm really looking forward to next week and seeing what it is like and trying to get into that team."
