Jansen on verge of Rovers exit

Mark Hughes has confirmed that Matt Jansen is on the verge of leaving Ewood Park.

Blackburn manager Mark Hughes has confirmed that striker Matt Jansen is on the verge of ending his seven-year association with the Ewood Park club.

Jansen signed a pay-as-you-play contract last summer but has failed to force his way into Hughes's first team reckoning this season.

"Matt is a good player but what he needs is a run of first-team games and at the moment I can't give him that. His best chance of that is
probably to go elsewhere," said Hughes.

"Nobody has wanted Matt to succeed more than myself but it may not be that Matt can further his career playing for Blackburn Rovers."

Jansen's imminent release from his Rovers contract is the culmination of over three years of frustration for both player and club.

Having been on the verge of the England squad Jansen suffered a motorbike accident in Rome while on holiday in the summer of 2002.

The former Carlisle and Crystal Palace frontman suffered severe head injuries and has never been able to recapture his previously prodigious form and Hughes sympathises with the 28-year-old's plight.

"We understand his frustration so for all parties concerned it may well be a parting of the ways but if that is the case we would wish Matt all the best for the future," added Hughes.

The release of Jansen is expected to be ratified at a meeting of the Rovers board on Tuesday.
