Transfer news: Derby send loan striker Leon Best back to Blackburn

Leon Best has returned to Blackburn after his season-long loan with Derby was cut short by Steve McClaren's promotion chasers.

The 28-year-old made just three starts since arriving back in August, and the Rams have activated a cancellation clause.

McClaren told the club's official website: "We would like to wish Leon every success in the future.

"He has been very unfortunate because Chris Martin has been in great form and we have since added Darren Bent to the squad.

"Leon has given his all, worked incredibly hard, been a great professional and not been a single bit of trouble, but given his chances were going to be limited moving forwards we have decided to cancel his loan agreement."
