Remi Garde believes a win for Aston Villa in their next match against Newcastle is crucial to their survival hopes after a 2-0 loss to Arsenal.
The hosts never really troubled the Gunners at Villa Park, with goals form Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey sealing a comfortable win for Arsenal.
The result sees Villa slip eight points from safety, but Garde insisted that overcoming that gap is not impossible - if they start to win games, beginning with Newcastle next week.
"Probably, we will have to win if we want to be safe," Garde said. "We can still be safe but we are coming into a period where we have to win. I see this situation as more of an opportunity than a problem but we have to be ready.
"I still believe we are capable of winning the next game. I enjoy working in this league. We are struggling, I still haven't won a game and I'm very frustrated but I know in football you can change things with work."
Despite offering very little as an attacking threat, Garde insisted that there were positives to take from the Super Sunday performance, and feels with more confidence things will improve
"I'm not here to blame my players too much because we are all together," Garde added. "I saw a lot of good signs. Of course we are all disappointed and I understand the disappointment around the team.
"The key is to try to give more confidence to the players and to be less fragile than we are currently individually and collectively. We have to work hard and still believe we can win games and then let's see what happens.
"We can create chances in every game. We had some in the second half especially but we were not accurate enough in the box. You have to be. You have to kill every situation you create and currently we miss a little bit when we create situations. We have to be more concrete."
