Aston Villa boss Remi Garde insists the club's problems run much deeper than his winless first two months in charge.

The Frenchman takes his side to Wycombe in the FA Cup on Saturday looking to revive their disastrous season after losing five and drawing four of his nine games since replacing Tim Sherwood - leaving Villa 11 points from safety at the foot of the Premier League.

After losing key men Christian Benteke, Fabian Delph and Ron Vlaar in the summer, Villa snapped up 13 new players, but they have not won in the league since the opening day of the season with most of the signings failing to adapt.

"My success is not here at the moment but in only two months it is difficult to solve a problem which has been accumulated for many years," said Garde.

"This is not an excuse. It's just what I see now. I am trying to do all I can with my experience and my network to change this.

"I don't want to spend too much energy on what should have happened. I was not brought in to judge what happened before. I am here to solve this problem which the club has had for quite a long time.

Remi Garde has refused to discuss Aston Villa target Loic Remy following criticism from Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink.

"Four years ago it was not the players who came in the summer who created the problem. I am not sure the players who came are the only problem in this club."

Garde wants Mathieu Debuchy from Arsenal and Chelsea's Loic Remy to aid Villa's survival fight and said he is not preparing a squad for the Championship.

He added: "I'll be the last man in the football club or the city to believe we can win the next game and stay in the Premier League. This is the way I'm working."
