Aston Villa have added former Football Association executive Adrian Bevington to their payroll.

Bevington will work alongside director David Bernstein and the club's football board as part of the current review and to implement the changes that arise from it.

Former FA chairman Bernstein was appointed to the Villa board along with Mervyn King and Brian Little by owner Randy Lerner earlier this month.

They were charged with conducting a full review of the club's failings - they are sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table and facing relegation to the Championship - and implementing a plan to restore progress.

Bevington, who has been working as an advisor to Nottingham Forest owner and chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi on a part-time basis this season, joined the FA's communications division in 1997 and was Club England managing director from 2010 to 2015, a period which covered Bernstein's spell as chairman from 2011 to 2013.

Bernstein said: "Adrian has a wealth of experience with over 20 years working at the highest level of football.

"He was the managing director of Club England and worked with many managers and coaches during his 17 years at the FA.

"More recently he has worked with several clubs and the Welsh FA, and I'm convinced his experience, contacts and understanding of football will be a tremendous asset to Aston Villa Football Club."

Bevington tweeted on Wednesday: "Thanks to Aston Villa fans for the warm welcome. Delighted to be involved. With the board will do all we can to restore pride."
