John Terry was "welcomed to the lower leagues" after he took a few bruises in his first Aston Villa game, according to team-mate Henri Lansbury.
The former Chelsea skipper, who won 14 major trophies with his former club, is gearing up for his first taste of Sky Bet Championship football when Villa begin their campaign against Hull, live on Sky Sports.
And Aston Villa's Henri Lansbury has welcomed Terry to the life outside the top flight after the former England captain enjoyed a robust first Villains game, against Shrewsbury Town in a pre-season friendly.
"He said the other day, someone smashed him straight away (against Shrewsbury)," Lansbury told the Birmingham Mail.
"I was like 'welcome to the lower leagues mate'.
"It's not going to be easy for him but he's a great guy who will hit the ground running."
Lansbury says that Terry has settled in at his new club with ease and is sure Terry can handle the demands of the Championship.
Terry is already having a positive impact for Villa with the squad yet to concede with him on the pitch.
Lansbury said Terry's presence would lift any squad and despite his high profile career, Terry will be treated no differently to the rest of the team.
"Well he's just another bloke," Lansbury said. "The boys don't treat him any different on the training field or the dressing room.
"He's had a great career and has been a fantastic player throughout his career," Lansbury continued.
"We will learn from him and I'm sure we'll be able to ask him questions if we need to as the season progresses."
