Aston Villa loan Jordan Amavi to Marseille

Aston Villa defender Jordan Amavi has joined Marseille on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

The 23-year-old left-back joined Villa from Nice for £9m two years ago but saw his first season at Villa Park cut short when he sustained a serious knee injury while on international duty with France.

The arrival of Neil Taylor from Swansea at the start of this year effectively ended Amavi's career at Villa.

The Frenchman had looked set to join Sevilla on a permanent deal last month, only for the proposed £8m transfer to collapse when the Spanish club claimed he failed a medical.

Amavi made 36 appearances for Villa last season in all competitions.
