Mick McCarthy would welcome the chance to speak to Aston Villa about their vacant managerial position, Sky Sports News understands.
Villa called time on Steve Bruce's two-year tenure on Wednesday with the Sky Bet Championship club having won one of their last 10 games in all competitions.
Former Republic of Ireland manager McCarthy has twice won promotion to the Premier League as champions with Sunderland and Wolves.
The 59-year-old has made the Championship play-offs on four separate occasions with as many different clubs.
He left Ipswich last summer after five-and-a-half years at Portman Road.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports News understands Paraguay head coach Juan Carlos Osorio would love to manage Villa and is very interested in the job.
Osorio became head coach of Paraguay only a month ago after leaving his role as Mexico head coach in the summer. His side beat Germany in their opening group game in Russia 2018.
