Marlon Harewood says he has no plans to consider an immediate international career with Barbados.
The Caribbean nation are looking to recruit new players for their World Cup qualifying campaign, and Harewood is eligible for selection.
But the Aston Villa striker concedes he is not currently keen to pledge his international allegiance to Barbados.
"My whole family are Barbadian, but playing for Barbados hadn't really crossed my mind," said Harewood.
Not at this moment
"Truthfully my dad used to say, 'don't go back to Barbados because it's not as good as playing for England'.
"Probably later on, maybe in another couple of years, I'll consider playing for them, but not at this moment.
"I followed Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago in the World Cups and I think Barbados are trying to do something similar and get players like myself who are Barbadian to play for them."
Barbados drew 1-1 with Dominica in the first leg of a 2010 World Cup qualifier last week, with the winners slated to play the United States in the next stage.
