Jamie Redknapp slams 'scandalous' Brad Guzan gaffe

Jamie Redknapp was highly critical of Brad Guzan after the Aston Villa goalkeeper gifted Sergio Aguero the opener in their defeat at Manchester City.
Guzan was under virtually no pressure when he received a Ron Vlaar back pass but scuffed the ball across his own six-yard box into the path of Aguero, who only had to finish into an empty net with less than three minutes on the clock.
"I think it was a really scandalous goal to concede from Aston Villa’s point of view," said Redknapp on Saturday Night Football.
"He (Guzan) makes a horrendous decision, the ball he wants to play is not on. Why doesn’t he kick it up the pitch and ask questions later? It’s a really poor piece of play.
“Just be direct. You’ve got someone up there [Christian Benteke], use him. But playing and making mistakes like that you’ve just invited Manchester City onto you - a terrible goal to concede.”
Fellow pundit and former Villa midfielder Stiliyan Petrov echoed the thoughts of Redknapp.
“(It was) a really sloppy and slow start," he said.
“You give them an opportunity to give them a lead without even working hard enough, without even having an opportunity to score a goal, from a mistake that I think is really poor - especially at Man City.
“They didn’t deserve to lose but they’ve lost because they’ve conceded three very poor goals today.”
Aleksandar Kolarov later doubled City's lead with a free-kick, before Aston Villa midfielder Tom Cleverley and Carlos Sanchez pegged them back to 2-2. But Fernandinho struck late on to give the home side the win, much to the dismay of Guzan.
