Newcastle U23s coach Peter Beardsley attended a hearing with club officials on Monday after finding himself at the centre of allegations of racism and bullying.

The former England international is the subject of claims made by some of the club's young African players.

Beardsley, 56, has been under investigation over claims that he bullied London-born winger Yasin Ben El-Mhanni, who is of Moroccan descent.

The 22-year-old accused Beardsley of humiliating him and lodged a complaint, which has been supported by some of his team-mates.

El-Mhanni will attend a grievance meeting with club officials on Thursday.

Newcastle's U23s were due to face north-east rivals Middlesbrough on Monday evening but the game has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
