Newcastle have confirmed full-back DeAndre Yedlin has undergone surgery following a groin injury.
The 25-year-old missed the Magpies' loss to Liverpool on Saturday with a groin injury and has not played since their loss to Crystal Palace on April 6.
He underwent surgery in Philadelphia on Monday and posted a picture of himself on the hospital bed following the operation.
Yedlin's recovery will be monitored by medical staff from Newcastle and the United States' national team - but his appearance at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, beginning on June 15th, remains in doubt.
The United States will take on Guyana in their debut on June 18, before facing Panama and Trinidad and Tobago in group D of the tournament.
Yedlin made 29 Premier League appearances for Newcastle this season, scoring a goal and adding two assists.
