Solano fancies Magpies stay

Nolberto Solano admits it would be 'crazy' to move on from Newcastle United.

Nolberto Solano admits it would be 'crazy' to move on from Newcastle United at the end of the season.

The Peruvian stalwart is out of contract in the summer, although The Magpies have the option of extending his stay by 12 months.

Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder wants to keep Solano at the club and the 32-year-old is also keen to prolong his career at St James' Park.

"There's an option of another year and I have a good relationship with the club," Solano told the News of the World.

"I would be crazy to move again because I am now 32. I'm waiting to see what is going to happen because there is a lot of speculation about my contract.

"To be honest, I would love to play for a couple of more year years here and then go back to South America. I don't know where, maybe Peru.

"But Newcastle feels like a second home and I would love to finish my career here."

Solano has been filling in at right-back of late for the injury-hit Magpies and admits it was his original position upon coming to England in 1998.

He added: "Nobody realises it, but that was my natural position before I moved to England. At the time, I was very skinny and not strong, and Kenny Dalglish asked me to play right midfield.

"I was very happy to play there and I scored goals, but nobody knew I could play right-back.

"Right-back is a nice position because you can see the whole game unfold."
