Midfielder to stay at St James' until 2009
Nicky Butt has signed a one-year contract extension to stay at Newcastle United.
The experienced midfielder's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season, but he will remain on the Magpies' books until 2009.
The 32-year-old moved to St James' Park from Manchester United in a £2.5million deal in 2004 and has made 93 appearances for the club.
His Newcastle career appeared in doubt when he spent the 2005/06 season on loan at Birmingham City after being shipped out by then boss Graeme Souness.
He was a regular feature in the side under Glenn Roeder last season and has featured prominently under current boss Sam Allardyce.
Butt has missed just one Premier League fixture this term and also weighed in with a goal in the 3-2 home win over Everton in October.
