Nicky Butt is not worrying about a new deal at Newcastle due to the current situation at the club.
Midfielder's immediate focus is on improving team's results
Veteran midfielder Nicky Butt admits he is not worrying about securing a new contract at Newcastle United due to the current situation at the club.
Butt's present deal expires at the end of the season, although the Magpies have the option extend it by a further 12 months.
Former England international Butt has spent over four years at St James' Park and is keen to enjoy one more season with the club.
However, with Newcastle currently in the Premier League's bottom three, the 33-year-old concedes the priority is to improve the team's results as owner Mike Ashley looks to sell the club.
Working hard
"I would like to stay here and finish my career here," said Butt in the
Sunday Sun.
"If it is not to be, it is not to be, but the club have a one-year option to extend my contract.
"It's not a big deal at the moment. I will just keep working hard and see what that brings.
"I'm the same as everyone else who is in that boat. We just have to put the contract situation to one side while the club gets some stability and a buyer comes in.
"But it's definitely not going to be a long-term thing with me at my age, because I am 34 in two months' time."
