Alan Shearer feels for Newcastle head coach John Carver

Alan Shearer say he understands what Newcastle head coach John Carver is going through - but that his former team will deserve relegation if they finish in the bottom three.
The Newcastle players have a day off today ahead of their final game of the season against West Ham on Sunday. They're one of three clubs - alongside Sunderland and Hull - who could be relegated this weekend.
Newcastle head coach John Carver has been playing in a charity golf day in Northumberland along with Shearer, who was Newcastle manager when the club was relegated in 2009.
“I know what John is going through, I’ve been there myself, it’s not a nice feeling,” Shearer told Sky Sports News HQ. “Steve Bruce is exactly the same and I’m sure Dick Advocaat will be feeling very down, very stressed.
“But the table never lies after 38 games and the three teams that do get relegated, deserve to be relegated, so you can’t really argue.
“But I’m just like the rest of many thousands here in Newcastle, hoping they can pull something from somewhere, to give the fans something to shout about on the last day.
“It’s going to be a desperately disappointing day for someone on Sunday, unfortunately, it’s going to have to be Sunderland, Newcastle or Hull.
“I’ve got everything crossed, I’m sure John Carver has and I hope his players can just roll up their sleeves and give it one big go.”
However, United’s all-time record goalscorer believes the players must take the blame for the position they find themselves in.
“You have to say that, their performances have been nowhere near good enough and no one can get away from that fact,” added Shearer.
“I know we keep on saying it, but the fans up here really do need something to shout about because it’s their life; it’s what they go to work for and it will be desperately disappointing if we get relegated on Sunday.
“It’s been hard for them, they’ve had nothing to shout about for weeks now but they still come out in their thousands, still pay their money and they just want and crave something to shout about.”
“I hoping and praying that Newcastle can give them that on Sunday.”
