Schalke are interested in signing 18-year-old Manchester City winger Rabbi Matondo, according to Sky in Germany.
The Bundesliga side are understood to have had an £8.6m bid rejected by the Premier League champions, but are preparing an improved offer.
The Wales international has been a regular for City's U23 side this season, but is yet to make his debut for the senior side.
If Matondo does move to Schalke, he will be the latest young player to leave the Premier League for the Bundesliga.
Jadon Sancho has established himself as a regular at Borussia Dortmund - and become a member of the England squad as a result - while Reiss Nelson is enjoying a productive campaign on loan at Hoffenheim from Arsenal.
