United boss confident tempers won't flare in semi-final clash

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Manchester United's decisive Carling Cup derby with City on Wednesday night will not boil over. Last week's semi-final first leg saw ex-United striker Carlos Tevez score twice and spark a gesture exchange with United's club captain Gary Neville, who was warming up as a substitute. City will carry a 2-1 lead into the second leg, in which there is much more at stake than just local bragging rights. As many as 9,000 City fans are expected at Old Trafford and both the Football Association and Greater Manchester Police have issued pleas for calm as the bitter rivals battle it out for a place in the Wembley final. It is the biggest Manchester derby during Ferguson's reign but the United boss sees no reason why his side should lose their discipline having come through many high-pressure occasions during his tenure. "I don't pay any attention to all that," he said.

Perfect behaviour

"The player behaviour has always been perfect. We have great players who play to the right rules of the game. "We have never had any issues in big games. Look at the record. I am not worried about it." While City are hoping to establish themselves as regular contenders for silverware following their Abu Dhabi takeover, they are only the latest rival to challenge Ferguson's side for major honours. "We have enough experience of playing in big games to know it is important to keep your head," he added. "It is always a key factor. We have had feisty games against the likes of Leeds and Liverpool since I have been here. "Player behaviour has always been good. It has never been an issue."
