Balotelli told to perform after recovering from injury
Brian Kidd hopes Mario Balotelli can ease the burden on Carlos Tevez and provide fierce competition for places in the Manchester City attack.
Balotelli made his comeback from a knee problem in Tuesday's Europa League clash with Aris Salonika and is set to feature against Notts County in the FA Cup this weekend.
Edin Dzeko's January arrival has given Roberto Mancini an extra option up front in recent weeks, although it is talismanic striker Tevez who continues to be very much the main man.
Assistant manager Kidd would like to have more of City's forwards contributing regular goals and has challenged Balotelli to show what he can do.
"Mario has had that wee problem with his knee and it appears everything has been sorted now. He's another great talent," said Kidd.
"We're blessed with good players and I think we've got a really good squad, no doubt about it.
"Carlos has always stepped up to the plate - and he's a fantastic player.
"But if you go through the clubs who have been successful, invariably they've had four strikers who will be competing for places."
