Manchester City midfielder Frank Lampard looks set to miss next week's Champions League trip to CSKA Moscow.

City are due to face the Russian side in a crucial Group E match in the Russian capital on Tuesday night.

But the 36-year-old Lampard is unlikely to travel with the team after injuring his thigh against Tottenham on Saturday.

Lampard had to be stretchered off during the first-half of City’s 4-1 victory and he will now have a scan to determine how serious the problem is.

City boss Manuel Pellegrini said: "Frank has a muscle injury. We will see on Sunday after the scan but, for the moment, he will not travel to Russia."

Lampard is at Manchester City on loan from their sister club New York City and the former England international has made a big impact, but he is due to link up with his American team in the new year as they prepare for the Major League Soccer season.
