Jamie Redknapp hailed the performance of David Silva after the Spaniard inspired Manchester City to a 5-0 demolition of Newcastle.

Silva scored twice and set up another as City ran riot at the Etihad to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to five points, with Samir Nasri, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero also on the scoresheet.

Newcastle had no answer to the impact of Silva, and Redknapp praised just how influential the former Valencia man is to City’s title push.

Jamie Redknapp and Craig Bellamy were full of praise for David Silva's performance

“He is absolutely exceptional,” Redknapp told Sky Sports’ Saturday Night Football.

“The little man (Silva) was involved in everything, but he was given the freedom of the park.

“He is the maestro, he knows where the passes are going to go.

“He runs the game. His goal was a lovely finish. He is truly exceptional. A joy to watch."

Craig Bellamy believes that the title race is wide open, and tipped City to emerge victorious come May.

“I said Man City at the start,” Bellamy added.

“While Chelsea have been exceptional, I am sticking with Man City.

“With this run City have, and on the back of such a crucial win that they got today, then they should close the gap.”
