AZ look for Steinsson deal

AZ Alkmaar have offered a new contract to Middlesbrough target Gretar Steinsson.

The 25-year-old has been the subject of interest from the Premier League side for a number of weeks, but the Dutch outfit do not want to do business.

AZ's asking price is in the region of ?6million (£4million) and Boro are only willing to pay half of that.

The player himself is believed to be happy with life in Holland and AZ have offered him fresh terms.

AZ have put a four-year deal to him with an option for another 12 months, and it seems Steinsson could extend his stay with Alkmaar and extinguish any hopes Boro had of luring him to England.

With a right-back very high on Gareth Southgate's wanted list he is lining up other options and one of those is believed to be Luke Young, along with Jose Bosingwa and Philipp Degen.
