Fulham are in talks with Ryan Sessegnon over a new long-term contract, Sky Sports News understands.
The Whites opened discussions with his representatives in the summer and negotiations are thought to be at the midway stage, with an agreement not yet close, according to a source.
Sessegnon's current deal - his first professional contract signed last year - keeps him at Craven Cottage until 2020 and his excellent form during Fulham's promotion season attracted fresh attention from top clubs including Tottenham.
Fulham owner Shahid Khan insisted Sessegnon would not be sold in the summer, however, and the 18-year-old would lead them into the Premier League and be a crucial part of their bid to stay up.
The club have suffered a poor start to the season so far, sitting in the bottom three with the joint-worst goal-difference in the league following only one victory and six defeats in nine games.
Sky Sports News understands head coach Slavisa Jokanovic has not been handed a time frame or ultimatum to save his job, following reports on Monday results in his next two matches could have a bearing on his future.
But there is pressure on the Serbian and his staff to find a solution to their poor defensive record, which has seen them ship 12 goals in the last three matches.
Fulham have a new-look defence this season that includes five summer signings, and injuries to Alfie Mawson, Joe Bryan and on-loan Timothy Fosu-Mensah have hampered opportunities to play a settled back four.
The Whites are at home to Bournemouth next, before a Carabao Cup trip to Manchester City and then a visit to fellow strugglers Huddersfield.
