Groningen have moved to counter the threat of losing Erik Nevland in the summer.
Groningen have moved to counter the threat of losing Erik Nevland in the summer by offering him a fresh contract.
The former Manchester United striker has one year left on his existing deal and has attracted interest from Viking in his native Norway.
Groningen are aware of the interest and have offered a fresh deal which would tie him to the club until the summer of 2010.
"It is obvious that we want to keep a striker of the calibre of Nevland at the club," Groningen general director Hans Nijland told the club's newsletter. "We will do everything to keep him at FC Groningen.
"The ball now lies with him and we have agreed to sit around the table again soon."
