Monday 6 April 2026 17:53, UK
Wigan took a significant step towards League One survival as they beat second-bottom Northampton 3-1 at Sixfields.
The Latics never looked back after Callum Wright's early opener to move up to 18th and leave Northampton on the brink of relegation.
The Cobblers, who have now won just once in 21 league games, could be officially relegated next weekend.

The home side missed a big chance to open the scoring when Cameron McGeehan failed to beat Sam Tickle and they were immediately punished as Wright finished well from Matt Smith's through ball after 15 minutes.
Wigan were largely in control from then on but they did one survive one scare shortly before half-time as Dean Campbell played through Michael Jacobs, who was denied by Tickle.
The visitors doubled their lead just before half-time when Jon Guthrie could only divert Fraser Murray's corner into his own net.
Jake Evans briefly gave Northampton hope with a well-taken goal but Will Aimson's late finish from another Murray corner sealed all three points for the visitors.
