Stopper arrives at DW Stadium on three-year contract
Wigan have completed the signing of Paraguay defender Antolin Alcaraz after he was granted a work permit.
The 27-year-old centre-back, whose contract with Belgian side Club Brugge expired at the end of last season, has joined the Latics on a three-year deal.
Alcaraz, who agreed a deal with Wigan prior to the World Cup, earned wide acclaim for his performances in South Africa.
And Martinez is thrilled to have finally completed the capture of the Paraguayan.
Fantastic
"It is fantastic news that we can finally confirm the arrival of a defender who I feel was one of the very best at this summer's World Cup," Martinez told Wigan's
official website.
"This is a massive boost for the club and we are thrilled to welcome him on board."
Alcaraz has been given the green light to start working with the rest of the squad, and is keen to return to action.
"I am so happy that everything has gone through now," said Alcaraz.
"I want to thank Roberto and the club for all the hard work to get me to Wigan and now I just want to play football.
"The Premier League is a big challenge for every player and I can't wait to get started."
