Mark Warburton admitted it is a sign of how far Brentford have come that they were disappointed to only draw 0-0 at Sky Bet Championship rivals Wigan.

Wigan extended their winless run to seven matches and remain in the bottom six, continuing a frustrating start to the campaign.

And although a point at the DW would perhaps have been regarded as a decent result before the campaign started, Warburton insists his men would not have been embarrassed to have gone away with all three.

"I thought we were very good in the first half, we dominated the ball in key areas,'' he said.

"I was very pleased with how we controlled the football and I was disappointed we couldn't get our rewards for that.

"In the second half we knew they'd come out very hard which they did, and the game was more neutral.

"But that's how far we've come as we've come as a group of players that we're not happy with a point.

"In no way is that being disrespectful to Wigan - far from it.

"This is a high-quality squad and this is a difficult place to come.

"We've come a long way in such a short space of time, and I know the quality of my squad.

"Everyone talks about Brentford as energetic, passionate and hungry, but there's a lot of quality here as well.''

Warburton also refused to be drawn when quizzed about Uwe Rosler, his predecessor in the Griffin Park hotseat and who was the subject of some unsavoury chanting from the away end in reference to his departure and subsequent capture of Brentford star Adam Forshaw.

"It's not my business to talk about the Wigan situation, but it's never nice hearing that,'' Warburton said.

"There was some bad blood between the clubs earlier, but life is bigger than that.

"What happened happened, we had to defend our corner which we did, but life moves on.

"There's far more important things to worry about.''

Rosler himself played a straight bat to questions about his reception from the Bees support, preferring instead to concentrate on more pressing matters.

"I've been in this business long enough to not lose any sleep over that,'' said the Wigan boss.

"The most important thing was the game and trying to climb up the table with the first of three home games out of four.

"I predicted before the game that the team with the most clinical finishers would win the game, and neither side used their opportunities.

"In the first half we weren't good enough. In the second half we were slightly better but we have to work on our game.

"I would like to highlight the fact our players could easily have given up in the second half, but they didn't.

"We looked like we had the momentum at the end but we couldn't score.''
