West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini confirms that Manuel Lanzini has returned to light training

West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini has resumed light training as he steps up his recovery from a serious knee injury.

The 25-year-old joined in with the first team's warm-up for the first time since rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament while preparing for the World Cup with Argentina in June.

Lanzini is still thought to be some way off a return to full training and match action, but his progress is a significant boost for the London club.

"We had the good news that Lanzini has started working with the squad," West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini said on Thursday.

"Just the warm-up, but he did his examination and he recovers in the correct way."
