West Ham are continuing talks with Celta Vigo over striker Maxi Gomez, with the clubs trying to finalise a deal for the summer.
The Hammers remain hopeful of completing the signing, though Gomez will finish the season with Celta as they battle against relegation.
The Spanish side are keen to keep hold of their goalscorer, despite West Ham's willingness to meet his €50m (£45m) release clause.
It is understood a deal to sign Gomez in the summer could see the Hammers purchase the player for less, as a result of not meeting his release clause in January and enabling the player to finish the campaign in Spain.
The 22-year-old Uruguay international scored 19 La Liga goals in his first season in Spain, and has hit the back of the net nine times so far this term.
