Marco Silva says his side controlled the game and the scoreline didn't reflect what happened in the match after they lost 4-2 to Chelsea in the Premier League

Marco Silva has called Watford 4-2 loss to Chelsea "a really unfair result" and said it did not reflect his side's performance.

The Hornets went into the match having not lost an away game this season, and were 2-1 ahead at Stamford Bridge thanks to goals either side of the break from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Roberto Pereyra.

But two goals from substitute Michy Batshuayi - sandwiched around a strike from Cesar Azpilicueta - defeated Watford, but Silva does not think the scoreline reflects the game.

Chelsea 4-2 Watford

"It is a really unfair result. It didn't reflect what happened in the match, like our team played and how we came here and controlled for most of the game," he said.

"We created a lot of chances in the first half and started to control the match, and then Chelsea started to play on the counter-attack. We knew before the match that they can play, but we played our game.

"A third goal would have killed the match and given us more chance to control in a different way. When you start to lose big chances to score it's normal Chelsea, with fantastic players, start to believe.

"We know there is a big difference in the moment when Conte needs to change the match and he looks to the bench with Batshuayi and Willian. It is a really big difference.

"It was fantastic organisation and fantastic work from our players. We came here to enjoy the match, go face-to-face with Chelsea and we controlled the match. Afterwards, it is a big frustration for us but we will continue in our way."

Richarlison has impressed this season and missed two big chances at the start of the first half to add to Watford's tally, but Silva is not worried about them affecting the forward's confidence.

"He has all the credit. He didn't score today but I am sure he will score in the next match," the Watford manager added.

"We created the chances, the player was there in the right position to score and this is the most important to me. He scored in other important matches and gave important points to us. That is football and I'm sure he will score more for us."
