Calderwood looking to sign Hornets youngster

Kilmarnock boss Jimmy Calderwood is poised to bolster his defensive options with the loan capture of Watford's Rob Kiernan. The 19-year-old central defender has made just one substitute appearance in the FA Cup for the Hornets a year ago. Kiernan is yet to make a first-team appearance this season and has been made available for loan by manager Malky MacKay The teenager has been training with the Rugby Park outfit and new manager Calderwood has been impressed with what he has seen. With Ryan O'Leary and Frazer Wright on the sidelines, Calderwood is keen to bolster his defensive cover ahead of their weekend clash with high-flying Dundee United.

Training

"Rob's in training with us as Frazer and Ryan are injured," confirmed Calderwood. "Ryan is out for three or four weeks and Frazer is out for six weeks as he's gone for an operation so it's not ideal. "We got a tip about him and Rob came up on Wednesday, trained with us and did really well. "We'll have another look at him on Friday and see what happens. "He's played for Ireland Under-20s and Malky is willing to let him go out on loan. "Rob can play and it's up to us. Malky is happy with it and his agent said Rob loved it. "He'll train on Friday and I don't know if we'll put him in on Saturday but he's definitely not ruled out."
