Steve Bruce got one over his old club Birmingham as Hull defeated Blues 2-0 on Saturday to replace them in second place in the Sky Bet Championship table.
Ex-Blues player and boss Bruce was indebted to two goals in the space of three minutes from David Meyler and Abel Hernandez at the KC Stadium as Birmingham's run of four straight wins came to an end.
Leaders Brighton made it 13 games unbeaten this season, and retained their four-point cushion at the top, following a 0-0 draw with Preston on the south coast.
The visitors came closest to breaking the deadlock when Joe Garner's header was cleared off the line in a game of few chances at the Amex Stadium.
Scott Arfield's fantastic attempt settled the east Lancashire derby as Burnley defeated Blackburn 1-0 at Ewood Park in the lunchtime kick-off to record their first back-to-back triumphs over their neighbours in 36 years.
Rovers duo Tom Lawrence and Jordan Rhodes squandered clear openings before Arfield curled into the top corner from outside the area to send the Clarets third.
Fulham boss Kit Symons saw his men clinch a much-needed win, with a 4-2 triumph over Reading that will ease the scrutiny on his position at Craven Cottage.
The Whites came from 2-0 down after Lucas Piazon and Orlando Sa struck to put the Royals in charge before Moussa Dembele's double and further efforts from Ross McCormack and Alex Kacaniklic helped Fulham claim a first victory in five.
Middlesbrough secured their first win in four league matches as they came from behind to beat Wolves 3-1 in an enthralling encounter at Molineux.
Dave Edwards gave the hosts a first-half lead but Diego Fabbrini, Grant Leadbitter and Stewart Downing hit back in a 20 minute second-half spell to seal an amazing fight-back.
Derby also claimed victory on the road to enhance their promotion credentials with a 2-1 win at Huddersfield.
George Thorne scored the Rams' winner after Chris Martin and Harry Bunn had traded strikes.
Shola Ameobi made an immediate impact at Bolton, but Steve Evans' Leeds came from behind to record their second straight 1-1 draw since he arrived at Elland Road.
Ex-Newcastle striker Ameobi was introduced as a 12th-minute substitute at the Macron Stadium and 20 minutes later, he had put Wanderers ahead.
However, Mirco Antenucci was brought down by Prince-Desir Gouano in the area, resulting in a red card for the defender, and the Italian stepped up to convert the spot-kick and earn Evans' men a point.
Wanderers loanee Liam Trotter also enjoyed a debut goal with his new club Nottingham Forest, who drew 1-1 at home to Ipswich.
Trotter's move to Forest was only completed on Saturday morning but his equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage
time cancelled out Jonathan Parr's opener.
Guy Luzon was sacked by Charlton after the Addicks slipped to their second 3-0 loss at home in five days as Brentford followed Preston's lead in recording a comprehensive away success at The Valley.
This loss made it 10 games without a win in all competitions for the Addicks, who conceded goals to John Swift, Alan Judge and Lasse Vibe.
QPR also enjoyed a 3-0 victory over MK Dons, with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Matt Phillips and Junior Hoilett all on target at Loftus Road.
