Birmingham winger David Cotterill will be out for at least a month with the knee injury he sustained against Blackburn.

The problem saw Cotterill miss the 5-2 victory at Fulham on Saturday and the 27-year-old has been forced to withdraw from the Wales squad.

The player is set to see a specialist once the swelling subsides although it is hoped he will not require surgery.

Blues boss Gary Rowett told the club's official website: "Cotts played against Blackburn and got through the game fine and then came in the next day and his knee was swollen.

"He couldn't remember an incident and sometimes those are the worrying ones because you think what is it then?

"He's going to see a specialist but at the moment the general consensus is that we have to wait until the swelling goes down which will probably take two or three weeks and then assess where he is.

"If he's not right then, we'll look at what we need to do further. We're hoping he won't need surgery but it may be three or four weeks before we get him back on the pitch which is blow.

"I'm sure he could go and play if there was a game on Saturday but should it then get worse you're possibly talking about surgery."
