Manager Neil Warnock has advised Rotherham on which players he thinks should be at the club next season, even if he is not.

Warnock is entering the final few weeks of his 16-game brief to keep the Millers in the Championship, a feat he could achieve against Huddersfield on Tuesday night.

The 67-year-old, who has confirmed he will have one more year of management, will sit down with chairman Tony Stewart in May to discuss a potential stay at the New York Stadium, but even if his destination lays elsewhere, Warnock is putting plans in place for the Millers.

That includes offering advice on the 16 players who are out of contract this summer.

"I have talked to the chairman," he said. "I have given my opinion on what I would do if I was here long term. It is up to Paul (Douglas, chief operating officer) and Tony to take it on board, which I think they will do.

"I have done everything that a manager should do at a club.

"You have got to plan for the future. Rotherham can't afford to get left behind. Rules are changing next year with the loan players so you have to have a bigger squad from the start. You're not going to get any help after the window closes."
