Newcastle have agreed a fee with Blackburn for defender Grant Hanley, according to Sky sources.
The two Championship clubs have been in negotiations for weeks over the Scotland international, with Rovers initially demanding £6m for the 24-year-old.
But he will now travel to Tyneside for a medical after a fee of £5.5m was agreed between the two clubs.
Hanley, who joined Blackburn's academy at the age of 16 and made 46 appearances last season, will become Rafa Benitez's sixth signing of the season as the Spaniard prepares his squad for life outside the Premier League.
Newcastle have recruited Matz Sels, Jesus Gamez, Matt Ritchie, Issac Hayden and Dwight Gayle since their relegation at the end of last season.
