Sky Bet Championship stats XI of September: Pontus Jansson, Dwight Gayle and Kieran Gibbs in Team of the Month

Another entertaining month of the 2018/19 Sky Bet Championship season is behind us and here is the WhoScored.com Championship Team of the Month for September…

Goalkeeper: Christian Walton - Wigan (7.4)

Wigan were impressive in September as they won three of their five games, with a return of nine points the fourth best haul in that time. Walton was equally solid at the back for the Latics, with the goalkeeper producing more saves (21) than any other in September.

Right-back: Connor Roberts - Swansea (7.2)

Similarly to Wigan, Swansea were effective in September as they earned eight points from 15 available. Roberts has made a starting spot his own in south Wales and repaid the faith shown in him by boss Graham Potter, with his man-of-the-match performance against QPR a standout display.

Centre-back: Liam Cooper - Leeds (7.9)

Leeds may have seen their unbeaten start to the season draw to a close last month, but they were still a force to be reckoned with in September, despite sacrificing top spot. Cooper churned out four commendable displays last month, with his goal in the 3-0 win over Preston the highlight.

Centre-back: Pontus Jansson - Leeds (7.8)

Winning the second-most aerial duels of defenders of the month, with 38, Cooper's team-mate Jansson also makes the cut in this XI. His main performance of note came in the hard-fought 1-1 draw with Millwall, where the Swede did enough to land the man-of-the-match award.

Left-back: Andy Yiadom - Reading (7.4)

Rounding off the defence is Yiadom. The left-back chipped in with the fourth-most tackles (16), while a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over Hull was a particular highlight for the 26-year-old.

Right midfield: Adam Reach - Sheffield Wednesday (7.4)

He scored two, including a goal-of-the-season contender in Sheffield Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Leeds, and assisted another two. Eight shots and 10 key passes was also a fine return.

Central midfield: Bradley Dack - Blackburn Rovers (8.0)

The WhoScored.com player of the month in the Championship for September, Dack was excellent for Blackburn. He had a direct hand in five goals, scoring three and assisting two, and was named the WhoScored.com man of the match in three of four appearances. He also completed more dribbles (13) than any other player.

Bradley Dack, Blackburn Rovers

Central midfield: Oliver Norwood - Sheffield United (7.3)

Norwood ranked fourth for successful final-third passes (77) and third for key passes (12) in the Championship last month. One goal and two assists was a respectable return for the 27-year-old and contributed towards his inclusion in this side.

Left midfield: Kieran Gibbs - West Brom (7.4)

Gibbs was influential in wins over Stoke and Millwall as he assisted against the former opponents and netted in the welcome of the latter. Returns of eight tackles and eight interceptions showcased Gibbs' statistically calculated WhoScored.com strength of 'defensive contribution' as he ended September with a 7.4 rating.

Striker: Lukas Jutkiewicz - Birmingham (7.7)

Two of Jutkiewicz's three league goals this season were scored in September in a man-of-the-match performance against Ipswich. An additional assist in Birmingham's 1-1 draw with West Brom pushed the striker's WhoScored.com rating up to 7.7. He supported a statistically calculated strength of 'aerial duels' as he won 45 headed battles, the third most in the Championship last month.

Striker: Dwight Gayle - West Brom (7.8)

Gayle again reinforced his goalscoring credentials at this level as he scored more goals (five) than any other Championship player in September, including two well-taken goals in a 2-1 win over Stoke. With an assist to his name too, Gayle had a direct hand in six goals, more than any other Championship player last month.
