Anthony Pilkington could make his Wigan debut against Aston Villa after joining on an 18-month deal from Cardiff.
Sam Morsy remains a doubt with a hamstring injury. The midfielder missed Latics' 1-0 FA Cup defeat to West Brom as a precaution last week. Darron Gibson suffered a thigh problem in the warm-up against the Baggies and is a doubt.
Defender Kortney Hause is expected to make his Aston Villa debut after joining on loan from Wolves. Villa remain without Jack Grealish as he continues to sit out with a shin injury.
Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe is also sidelined with a foot injury and is not expected to return until March. Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland is out for the rest of the season after he ruptured his Achilles in training.
