Thomas Butler has secured a new contract at Swansea City after appearing in a set number of games.

Winger now focused on clinching play-off spot

Thomas Butler has confirmed he has secured a new contract at Swansea City after appearing in a set number of games. The winger, who joined the club from Hartlepool United in 2006, has featured 25 times this season, although most of his appearances have been from the bench. Butler has triggered a 12-month extension and is now looking forward to helping Swansea secure a play-off spot and, hopefully, promotion to the Premier League. "I've triggered the clause in my contract and I'm really pleased to have done that," Butler told the Evening Post. "There's a lot of competition for places in the squad, out wide in particular, but I think I've done okay. "Getting into the play-offs would mean so much, but the Premier League is the place to be. "Anyone who has played in the Premier League will tell you how great it is to play against the top stars and at the best stadiums in the world. "We've proved that we are an established Championship side, but this is a great opportunity to reach the next level. "It would be such a shame if we missed out. It is unbearable thinking about it."
