Non-league striker to join after impressing on trial

Skysports.com understands Portsmouth are set to conclude a deal to sign Hampton & Richmond's teenage striker Dan Thompson. The highly-rated forward has attracted interest from several clubs, including Premier League quartet Liverpool, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers and Stoke City. Crystal Palace had also taken a look at Thompson, but Pompey are now on the brink of clinching his signature. Skysports.com revealed last month that the Championship club were favourites to land Thompson and he subsequently impressed manager Michael Appleton on trial. Former West Brom assistant Appleton is busy trying to put his own stamp on the Pompey squad ahead of the January transfer window.
