Gary Rowett has confirmed that Rhoys Wiggins sustained a 'serious' injury during Birmingham’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

The Bournemouth loanee was stretchered off wearing an oxygen mask after a heavy collision with Villa's Rudy Gestede deep into stoppage time.

And although Rowett says Blues will need to wait on a full diagnosis, it appears that Wiggins has sustained serious ligament damage.

"I think it's quite a serious injury and his wife went into the treatment room with him [after the game]," said Rowett.

"I think he's clashed legs with Gestede and his foot has planted and he's just rotated and felt something snap.

"It looks quite bad and he's not in great shape.

"It's really disappointing for him because I think he epitomised the spirit of our team. It was his first start for God knows how long and I thought he was absolutely brilliant.
