Che Adams will serve a three-match ban after Birmingham's appeal to overturn his red card against Bolton was turned down.
Birmingham recorded a third-straight win under new manager Garry Monk away at the Macron Stadium on Tuesday, despite playing the final 23 minutes with 10 men.
Adams, 21, kicked the players' tunnel as he departed after a straight red card for a foul on substitute Craig Noone.
"An independent FA commission has rejected an appeal of wrongful dismissal by Blues over Che Adams red card at Bolton Wanderers," said Birmingham on their social media.
"The three-match ban for serious foul play stands."
Adams will now miss Saturdays' relegation clash against Burton Albion on Saturday, as well as away trips to Bristol City and Wolves.
The Blues are five points above the relegation zone in the Sky Bet Championship with six games left.
