Czech ace putting contract talks on hold for now

Birmingham City defender Martin Jiranek is focusing all his efforts on performing well for the club and not his future. The 31-year-old stopper is out of contract in the summer having penned a one-year deal after joining from Spartak Moscow. Jiranek is against holding contract talks right now as he does not want any unwelcome distractions as the club looks to avoid the drop. The Czech Republic international wants Blues to retain their top-flight status, then he will look at whether he will stay or not. "I know that my contract expires in the summer," said Jiranek. "We will see what happens. "I would prefer not to discuss it at the moment because I would like to concentrate on the remaining fixtures and we still have some difficult games to play. "When the season is finished, we can come back to the subject."

Happy

Jiranek missed Saturday's crucial 2-1 home win over Bolton while recovering from a minor toe operation but has been happy with his form since Scott Dann's hamstring setback gave him his chance. He said: "When I arrived here, I was thinking I might start playing a little bit earlier and, when I didn't, it was difficult. "It would have been better to have been selected in different circumstances to someone being injured (Dann) but that's life in football. "I think I have done quite well since getting into the team."
