David Davis says the arrival of Birmingham boss Gary Rowett has inspired him to raise his game.

Blues are 12th in the Sky Bet Championship after eight wins from 12 games since Rowett took over in October.

And Davis knows he needed to impress Rowett with Birmingham second bottom when he came in.

"That's the life of a footballer, I was kind of used to it before at Wolves with four managers in two years," he said.

"Maybe that was an advantage of mine, trying to look at it as a fresh start: 'There's a new manager coming in, I am the only person who can show him what I can do - no-one else can'. It was up to me.

"I would like to think I am playing well but not that I am in my best form. I am just slowly building up to it. I feel like I have got a lot more to give.

"Obviously the more games we play the more confidence we get. I am still only 23, I would like to think I have got better years ahead."

Davis has scored once in 24 appearances for Birmingham since signing from Wolves in the summer and has netted just four times in 145 career games.

The 23-year-old knows he needs to become a regular scorer to add an extra dimension to his game.

"I would like to score a few more goals but obviously my role in the team isn't so much scoring goals, but I'd like to add a few myself," he said.

"I would like to add a bit more consistency, I think everyone in the team would. We have been quite consistent at the moment but just more game to game personally myself."
