Transfer news: Darren Randolph eyes stay with Championship side Birmingham

Darren Randolph insists he is open to staying at Birmingham as he plans further contract talks with boss Gary Rowett.

The goalkeeper's deal expires at the end of the season and he has been in discussions with the club over an extension.

Randolph signed a two-year deal from Motherwell in 2013 and is Blues' first choice keeper, having made 71 appearances, and is keen to stay at St Andrew's.

"I'm happy here at the minute and I just want to be part of this team in the direction that it's going," he said.

"I am certainly open to the idea about staying at Birmingham, definitely. I have said that to him (Rowett) as well.

"Gary came to me and we are still in talks about it now. I am just playing the football and waiting to speak to him again about the future.

"I feel in the last two seasons we have had the same core of players. Everyone gets on, we have got a good team spirit, it's just fun to come into work every day. We've got a good bunch of lads."

Birmingham have won eight of Rowett's 13 games in charge since he took over in October and Randolph said the manager would have a big influence on his future.

"Yes, definitely. Everyone enjoys working with him, you have seen what he has done since he has come in," said the Republic of Ireland international.

"He has only been here a few months, imagine how things could be if he has the team for a longer period.

"It can only look up from here and that's something that excites me.

"I just wanted to get away from the bottom. Now we are obviously sitting in mid-table and not a million miles off the top six or so. We'll just keep playing and see where that leaves us at the end of the season."
