David Moyes bemoaned his side giving away two cheap goals in the defeat to West Brom

Sunderland boss David Moyes says conceding "poor" goals has become a regular occurrence after his side lost 2-0 at West Brom.

Darren Fletcher and Chris Brunt volleyed West Brom to victory in the first half, a result which leaves Sunderland bottom of the Premier League table.

And while the finishes from Fletcher and Brunt were exemplary, Moyes feels Sunderland could have dealt with the initial balls into the box better.

"We gave away two poor goals, which is a regular thing these last few weeks. Prior to that we defended well but the goals are down to our own doing," Moyes said.

"The down side, and what people look at, is the result - every game is a must-win for us. And we made it really hard for ourselves.

"There are more games to come and we will get players back from injury, plus a couple from Africa Cup of Nations as well. We look forward to that and hopefully things will pick up."

However, Moyes reserved special praise for George Honeyman, who started his first league game for the Black Cats having impressed in their 2-0 FA Cup defeat at Burnley.

And when quizzed on whether Sunderland need strengthening this January transfer window, Moyes admitted he will look within his own squad first.

"We had arguably one of the best players on the pitch in George Honeyman, so we take something from the game," Moyes added.

"If you look at Honeyman's performance, he's had to wait for his opportunity and he's got in because people are injured and away.

"At this moment in time, he played as well as anybody and deserved to keep his place from midweek.

"We will keep looking at our own first, and then starting seeing if there's anybody from outside that can help us.

"It's difficult for us to introduce young players given our position. But we are one of the teams who are actually introducing them."
