Sunderland forward Charlie Wyke has suffered a knee ligament injury which will keep him out until November.
Wyke was stretchered off the pitch on Saturday in Sunderland's 2-1 loss to Burton Albion following a collision with goalkeeper Dimitar Evtimov.
Manager Jack Ross hoped it was only an impact injury but scans have revealed the forward has injured his posterior cruciate ligament, and will miss at least the next two months of football.
The former Bradford man is expected to miss a minimum of 10 competitive matches, with a potential return only in early November depending on his progress.
The 25-year-old was already carrying a medial ligament injury when he joined the Black Cats this summer from Bradford City.
Wyke's injury puts significant pressure on Jack Ross' team, with only two recognised strikers now in Josh Maja and Jerome Sinclair.
